  1.  How does your product  use or challenge conventions AND  how does it represent social groups or     issues? My commercial has both used and challenged conventions. For instance, some conventions that we did not include can be varied: In some ads, the producers use a skateboard to shoot scenes that represent freedom. However, we could not do the same thing due to the fact that it was going to be too complicated to bring one on campus. Another convention that we could not do was putting the backpack in water to show its durability and water resistance. The reason why is because my friend could not take the risk to make her bag wet and it would not be convenient to do that at school. One last convention that was a challenge was that in most ads, people would run on the beach. Of course, because we have to film on campus, we couldn’t. However, some conventions that we used are for instance sitting on a ledge. This was actually inspired from a YouTube video. Another one convention tha

Overall, this journey and process has really been great. My group and I have finally finished our commercial, and we have had a lot of fun doing it. During the process, we have learned a lot. For instance,  we have learned what steps we should take while the filming process. We have also learned some very useful tips that our teachers have shared, which helped us make our project easier. Finally, the edit process have strongly taught us how to use editing tools. Moreover, I strongly think the next projects will be a bit easier in terms of organization. We will be aware of our obstacles and meet our expectations. In conclusion, I am very excited to work with my group for our next project. We will continue to have fun and continue to learn about the filming industry along the way.

Second day of editing

Today, my group and I finished up our editing and finished the commercial. First of all, I added the sound of a school bell over the first clip. In the story, one of the characters is supposed to quickly run because she is scared she might be late. This is the reason why I added that sound, to make the audience understand what’s happening. After that, I adjusted the sound so that it wouldn’t be too loud. Additionally, we had to do voiceovers. Because the sound was close to terrible in the original clips, we had to go outside and record ourselves. We individually recorded our lines on the device we are using. We had to do multiple takes because our voice was either too low, too loud, or it would not match the mouth movements. We went in chronological order according to the order of the clips. So first, Aleiah had to say her short line: “Hey! Wait!”. After that, she said her second line in accordance with the second clip. Once that was done, it was one of the extra actors’ turn to say th

The editing part was probably the longest part. First of all, I had to go over the clips that we filmed. In other words, I had to choose the best ones among twenties or thirties of them. Ones I picked the best scenes, I had to narrow it down even more. Once I was left with the necessary video clips, I was ready to start the editing. I chose the app called “CapCut”. It is easy to work with, and does not leave a watermark. Then, I selected the clips and inserted them all. Once that was done, I shortened them because most of them were way too long. After that, I had to insert the music. That step took a bit of time due to the fact that we were not sure which music to choose. As previously stated, we want our commercial to look vintage, and the sound plays a big role in that. Due to that reason, we were hesitating between three of them. The first one was “These boots are made for walking”. We liked it, but we thought that it did not fit the theme enough. Next, we went with the song titled

Today, October 5th, was our second and last day of the filming process. Overall, it was pretty fun and a bit stressful at the same time. The first thing we did was change into the clothes we wore last time. Once that was done, we went near building 17 to do our first shot of the day. In that scene, I had to hold many notebooks and drop them due to despair. Then, Angie comes in and gives me my JanSport backpack. We had to take many shots of that scene because we kept laughing or my friend would call me by my name instead of the fake one. Moreover, it was pretty tiring to do these scenes over and over due to the heat and humidity, which made up look sweaty. Once we had the perfect shot, we decided it was time to film the “passes” scenes. For the first scene of that section, we had to find someone that would be willing lend us a JanSport backpack for a few minutes. That was actually pretty easy. Then we got two nice classmates of our class to participate in the production. Aleiah, who is
