First Day of Editing

Image
After finally airdropping every clip needed for the editing portion of our project, I was ready to get started . First things first, I went and used an app called ‘CapCut’. I have been using this app for most of my previous projects, and I like it better than IMovie. There is a wider range of options, easy to use, and no watermark. Then, I selected all clips needed. Once that was done, I put all of them in order, while looking at the storyboard to make sure nothing was missing. At that moment, the overall video was 2:40 minutes long. That’s when I realized that I really needed to crop and cut of shots that were way too long. In some clips we could hear Hannah say “Go” to indicate us she was filming, and in other we could see us laughing at the end. I had to cut those parts out even though they were funny. The next step was the hardest. I had to make jump cuts throughout the video. In order to do that, I had to duplicate a lot of identical clips, which was hard to find out how to do it.

Day of Filming

My group mates and I have finally filmed our horror extract. We met up on March 21st, around 12pm. We had to wait until the sun settled down for most of the scenes except two. Se we filmed the one where the main character, Lili, wakes up from her “nightmare”, and the one when she opens the front door to welcome her friends. Apart from those, the rest of the scenes had to be filmed when it was dark, so we officially started at around 7:30 pm. To wait until that time, we hung out during the afternoon, ate lunch, and went shopping. Then we came back home, and started filming. We started with the first scenes, taking place in my bedroom. It was a bit difficult, given that we couldn’t stay serious and kept laughing throughout the shots. After many takes, we got the final scenes, and moved on. We had a lot of scenes to film in one night, so we had to hurry a bit. We also had to take in consideration that two of my friends were not allowed to leave too late, which pressured us into going fast

Production Blog: Plans got canceled

My group and I were planning on filming on Monday, March 21st. This was the prefect day, because everybody was available in some sort of way. However, some conditions are preventing us from doing so. First of all, the weather does not look good. It is supposed to rain on that day, which will prevent us from filming important scenes. Second of all, Aleiah’s competition has changed plans. Instead of doing it in the morning, her team is going to compete in the evening, at the moment we’re supposed to film. That said, we will need to find another day to film during the break. Not too early, not too late. Brianna will most likely have to skip practice on one of the weekdays. Hopefully she’ll agree, otherwise we’ll have some issues with the timing. The best solution would be to do it on Tuesday, but only if the weather allows us to. Brianna really didn’t want to miss practice ans would want to do it on the Monday right before school starts. However, the rest of us do not think that’s a good

Production blog: change of plans

My group and I are having a bit of trouble concerning the filming. We are almost in vacation, spring break for eleven days. However, it is very difficult to make it work for all of us. We originally wanted to film on a Wednesday in the middle of the break. But, one of my group mates Brianna, is only available on 3 dates. Not including that Wednesday due to her judo practices. However, two of those dates do not work for the rest of the group mates. The only one that partially works, is Monday March 21st. Angie, Brianna and I are free, but Aleiah has a dance competition on that day. So, we decided to still do it on that day, but wait for Aleiah to return from her dance competition. It is okay, because most of our shots will have to be filmed during the night. However, we need to shoot one scenes taken during the day. My other group mates will most likely come during the morning. That way, we can hang out for a bit and even have lunch together. Overall, I am a bit stressed. We don’t know

Production Blog: Mis-en-scène

I am having a bit of trouble making decisions about the props and costumes. First, my group mates and I have discussed and agreed about the fake blood. I should buy stage blood instead of Halloween party fake blood. That way, it will look more realistic and and I will have a bigger quantity. Next, my group and I have debated on the fact that we should wether use a real or a fake knife. I understand that it is safer to use a plastic knife, but at the same time, I think it will look too fake. Oh the other hand, a stage knife that is a professional prop could be an option, but I do not want to spend too much money buying props either. So, I decided that a real knife will be better. Of course, I will need to use it with precaution in order to not hurt anybody. Another prop that I will use is a picture frame. I will need one for one of the scenes, which will be broken by the main character. So, I will get a picture frame that I don’t use anymore, and slide a picture inside of it. Regarding

Music Overview Blog

Choosing a music for our project was not a difficult task. First, I all looked up some horror movies in order to get an idea of which type of music to choose. After a while, I discovered a pattern. I figured out that a jazz music would be the creepiest because the music itself is calm, but the scary atmosphere makes it unsettling to the audience. A music that is already scary would not seem realistic in the context I am using for the project. After doing some more research, I had a wide variety of music choices. I wanted to use a specific music, but it was already used in a horror movie with a similar context.  I did not want to risk anything concerning plagiarism, so I moved onto other ones. However, the other ones were not portraying a scary vibe enough. After debating between five different songs, I decided to choose “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” by Tiny Tim. I thought it was ideal because the singer sings it in an uncommon way that comes off as creepy and uncomfortable. I made sure I

1st sheet: The film starts with an establishing shot of the house on which the name of the studio, "Blue Breeze Studios" will appear. That shot that shows a creepy girl slowly walking through one of the windows. Soon after appears a four shot of teenage girls, Angie, Emma, Aleiah and Lili, all hanging out in a bedroom, gossiping, when one of them, Emma, starts to distance herself from her friends and goes to the bathroom. At this moment, the name of the production company, "A Plume Productions Film"pops up on the lower left corner. When in the bathroom, an eye-level shot as well as short cuts will show Emma glitching into her alternate self, portrayed as a creepy girl. That is when the name of the actress playing that role appears, Brianna Reyes, still on the lower left corner. 2nd sheet: An eye-level shot of Emma shows her, still in the bathroom, getting a knife out of her clothes. Right above her head appears the name of the costars, such as Aleiah Luster, Angie M
