Production Blog: First Day of Filming

Our first day of filming started on Monday, February 27th. After we finished school, we all went into Angie’s car, and started our mission. First, we went to Publix to buy a bottle of hydrogen peroxide as it looked similar to a lighter fluid’s one. Next, we went to Office Depot to buy a bulletin board and a picture frame. Next, we went to my house and dropped off our stuff. Right after, Aleiah was dropped off to my house and brought red yarn. A few minutes later, Hannah and I changed outfits and wore athleisure. Then, we went outside in my neighborhood and started shooting. Our first scene was the scene where Chloe and Rachel work out outside and “accidentally” bump into one another. It took us a little while as memorizing the lines was a but difficult. Around 20 minutes later, our scene was done. We then got back home and wondered what would be the best thing to do next. We ended up agreeing that we should go to Las Olas to film the first scene of our film. It consisted of Chloe and her two best friends walking together on a sidewalk and taking while Rachel spies on them. So, we took Angie’s car and drove to Las Olas. Finding a parking spot was a but challenging but we ended up parking close to the avenue. We walked a bit until we found the perfect spot. We shot on the small bridge right next to a beautiful restaurant. Shooting this short scene took us approximately 15 minutes because we had trouble finding the perfect angle. It would either be too zoomed in, too zoomed out, or a bit slanted. After a few more tries, we finally got a good shot. Once we were done, we went back home because my group mates had to get home rather early. After we got to my house, we all agreed that most of the props should stay at my house because all of the filming will take place there. That way, we are not risking losing the props we had bought.

My group and I have shown our project to some people. Not necessarily friends, but not random people either. Simply some friendly acquaintances. I didn’t want to pick people who may biased, in order to have judgements. However, my friends and I are all a bit insecure of our faces and acting, so we do not feel very comfortable showing our video to anyone. Kaitlyn, of of the persons reviewing our project, has noticed some details. First, she really liked the jump cuts that I had made, but she wished that I had more, to make the atmosphere a bit more creepy. Additionally, she thought I should add some additional sound effects. For instance, the knife scratching on the picture frame, to make the viewers more uncomfortable. One last tip she gave me is to lower the brightness of some clips. In some, the brightness is already low, but some other are way brighter, which creates some unbalance within the clips and the transitions.   Another acquaintance reviewing my project was Sofia. The movie contains a lot of hand-held shots along with two-shots. For instance, there was a scenario where the protagonist was having a realization that something was off with a women's husband.     It documented the manner the man was looking around cautiously and worried.     These specific shots can be used to show the audience what is happening in the action as it is happening and to simply illustrate the movements of the characters. The utilization of cutaway shots was also common. For instance, the protagonist woke up and the shots cut from him to a man making breakfast demonstrating his alertness. Cutaway shots are used to create tension and suspense. These shots are quick glimpses of something that is not immediately relevant to the main action of the scene, but that adds to the overall feeling of unease and uncertainty. About my group

In this class, since the beginning of the year, the teachers have recommended us to get into groups. So, I have chosen to work with two partners. I was aware that this class can get a little hard, and I didn’t want to put too much pressure on myself. For that reason, I decided to work with two other girls. I got to know them on the first day of class. I didn’t know anybody at first, and I was sitting on a table of three. Not long after class started, two girls sat next to me and didn’t know anybody in this class either. So throughout the period, I got to know them. We all got along very well very fast and kept talking, which made us get close. After that, we decided that we would form a good group. At that time, we already knew each one of us was persevering and would take this class seriously. Their names are Angie Mendez and Aleiah Luster.
